The City of Homestead, FL, is seeking a City Planner for the Planning and Zoning Division of the Development Services Department. This professional role involves developing and accessing current and future land use plans for cities and communities, considering factors like economic growth, transportation needs, zoning regulations, and community development to ensure efficient and sustainable urban environments for the growth and development of the city.
The City Planner will also work with professional consultants engaged by the City to assist in achieving the goals of the department and the City. The position reports to the Planning Division Director and has supervisory responsibilities for Planning and Zoning Division Personnel.
The essential duties and responsibilities include preparing staff reports for public hearings, delegating functional activities to staff, reviewing work product prepared by staff, preparing studies and programs related to land use and zoning regulations, coordinating consultant activities, presenting public hearing cases to the Local Planning Agency and the City Council, and meeting and responding to public and interdepartmental planning and zoning issues.
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Regional or Urban Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, with a Master's Degree being desirable. The candidate must have thorough knowledge of comprehensive master land use planning, experience reviewing and interpreting land development codes, and in-depth knowledge of census analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), transportation, and traffic analysis. Technical ability to conduct and review open space planning and environmental review is also required. Strong analytical, coordinative, administrative, and communicative skills are necessary, along with five to seven years of progressive experience in planning. A valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to pass a background screening process are also required.
