Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision, positions in this classification generally involve cleaning in common areas of the community, both public and private. On an assigned shift, cleans clubhouses, designated laundry buildings, adjoining laundry drying areas, stairs and stair landings; assist in a variety of maintenance; and performs and performs related work as required. Work involves regular contact with other divisions, departments, residents, vendors and the public. This is an early morning shift from 5:00am-1:30pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Sweeps, mops, waxes and dusts (appliances and interior of laundry rooms); washes and cleans (sinks, windows, screens, walls, floors); picks up paper and other debris; and empties and cleans trash receptacles.
Sweeps, hoses and squeegees common area stairs and stair landings; cleans adjoining handrails and railings on landings; and leans stairwell light cover as needed.
Regular attendance required. All duties performed on-site for the Community.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists in moving furniture and special janitorial cleaning assignments as needed.
Cleans outdoor shuffleboard and patio furniture, storerooms, washers and dryers. Checks and secures doors, turns off unnecessary lights and fireplaces.
Drives a vehicle to obtain mail, pick up or deliver parts or equipment.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Truck, broom, mop, mop bucket, vacuum, floor machines, buffer, carpet cleaning equipment, dolly air-blower, washer and dryer.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Climate controlled indoor facilities with exposure to dust and normal outdoor elements.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Some education and experience that provides the following:
· Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
· Knowledge of the materials, methods and practices used in cleaning operations.
· Ability to maintain a schedule of cleaning and work with a minimum of supervision.
· Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines and other custodial equipment.
· Ability to work hours determined by shift assignment.
· Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces.
· Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.
· Ability to communicate effectively with others in English.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid California driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear and use hands to finger, grasp, feel, reach, climb, crouch, kneel and carry up to 20 lbs. and lift up to 50 lbs. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time (up to 7 hours). The employee is occasionally required to carry up to 100 lbs.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee reads, solves problems, uses his verbal and written communication skills, and has customer contact.
