Board Member – Charm City Impact

Location: Baltimore, MD & Surrounding DMV Area (Remote/Hybrid Meetings Possible)

Commitment: Part-Time, Volunteer Board Service (2-year term, renewable as per bylaws)

Organization Overview

Charm City Impact is a startup nonprofit committed to empowering emerging nonprofit leaders—particularly those from historically marginalized communities—in Baltimore and the surrounding DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. We provide comprehensive fiscal sponsorship and capacity-building services, offering leadership coaching, professional development resources, and administrative support. Our goal is to address gaps in the local nonprofit ecosystem, foster equitable opportunities, and propel visionary initiatives that drive transformative social change.

Our Mission

To nurture and support emerging nonprofit leaders serving Baltimore and the surrounding DMV area's communities of color by providing leadership coaching, professional development resources, and comprehensive fiscal sponsorship. By investing in these leaders, we enable them to focus on creating sustainable change, all while ensuring transparency, accountability, and financial stewardship.

Board Member Responsibilities

There are four key areas of responsibilities. Fiscal Oversight, Governance, Program Oversight, and Ambassadorship. Some highlights include:

  • Fiscal Oversight
  • Annually review and approve the organization’s budget, financial reports, and fundraising goals.
  • Monitor revenues, expenses, and overall financial performance.
  • Raise (or donate) a minimum of $1,000 annually to support Charm City Impact’s sustainability.
  • Governance
  • Establish and monitor organizational policies/procedures to ensure legal and ethical compliance.
  • Attend board meetings regularly (every other month), and serve up to a 2-year term (renewable).
  • Oversee the performance of the Executive Director, ensuring alignment with mission and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold our conflict-of-interest policy.
  • Program Oversight
  • Approve major actions and review the effectiveness of our fiscal sponsorship programs.
  • Track progress against annual goals and the broader strategic plan.
  • Ambassadorship
  • Advocate for Charm City Impact in your personal and professional networks.
  • Generate goodwill, increase community visibility, and cultivate donor and partner relationships.
  • Uphold accountability to members, donors, and the communities we serve.

Additional Board Agreement Highlights

  • Term & Resignation: Board Members serve two-year terms and may resign by providing 30 days’ written notice.
  • Legal & Ethical Standards: Maintain high ethical standards with care and compassion; disclose any conflicts of interest promptly.
  • Fundraising: Work with the Board Chair and staff to develop a personal fundraising plan; meet the $1,000 annual give/get goal via direct contributions or in-kind services.
  • Meeting Attendance: Attend scheduled Board and committee meetings; more than two unexcused absences may result in removal from the Board.
  • No Compensation: Board service is fully voluntary.

Why Join Our Board?

  • Shape a New Organization: Influence the strategic direction of a startup fiscal sponsor poised to fill critical gaps in Baltimore’s nonprofit landscape.
  • Amplify Social Impact: Help expand access to essential nonprofit services, especially for leaders in historically underserved communities.
  • Network & Collaborate: Engage with a passionate team, community partners, and philanthropic leaders to foster collaborative growth.
  • Foster Equity & Inclusion: Contribute to a mission that prioritizes racial equity, cultural competence, and resource accessibility in the nonprofit sector.

A demonstrated passion for social change and a record of translating that passion into dollars raised for nonprofits serving under-resourced communities.

Proven Fundraising Track Record

Five-plus years securing $50k+ annually through major gifts, grants, events, or corporate partnerships—ideally within Baltimore or the wider DMV.

Strategic Deal-Maker

Skilled in building and executing development plans, managing donor pipelines, and closing gifts that align with long-term organizational goals.

Influential Networker

Deep, active relationships in philanthropic, corporate‐social-responsibility, or foundation circles—ready to open doors and make warm introductions on day one.

Storyteller & Steward

Exceptional verbal and written communicator who can craft compelling cases for support and steward donors with authenticity and care.

Governance-Ready Learner

Prior board experience welcome but not required; must be eager to learn nonprofit governance, legal, and fiduciary duties.

Collaborative Coach

Comfortable coaching fellow board members and staff on best practices, while working constructively within a small, equity-focused team.
