Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an outpatient acute dialysis position in a rural setting requiring MN RN licensure and strong charge experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in an outpatient dialysis unit connected to a hospital in a post-acute care setting
• Unit has 8 dialysis chairs and operates two patient shifts three days per week (M/W/F or Tu/Th/Sat)
• Care is provided for patients with ESRD requiring dialysis
• Patient volumes average 16 per day and 32 per week
• Typical staff per shift includes 1 NP (weekdays), 1-2 RNs, 2 Techs, and 1 CNA with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Charting is performed using the Cerner EMR (PowerChart 2012.01.28)
• Shifts are days, usually 4 ten-hour shifts per week, with start times staggered between 5-6 am and one rotating day off per week
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend (Friday and Saturday)
• Holiday coverage required approximately every third holiday except Christmas
• No on-call or floating required
• Oversee the dialysis treatment process from assessment to post-procedure care
• Develop and adjust care plans, administer medications (including heparin), and respond to complications
• Educate patients regarding dialysis treatment, diet, and lifestyle
• Supervise dialysis technicians and ensure compliance with safety protocols
• Participate in a brief orientation (2 shifts) with a preceptor
• Scrub attire is flexible; any color permitted, ankles must be covered, and lab coats are provided
• Located about 45 minutes from Rochester, MN, in a rural environment

Requirements

• Active MN RN license required at time of consideration
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum of 3 years RN experience required
• Prior charge nurse experience is required
• Dialysis experience is required
• No first-time travelers considered
• Must comply with the 100-mile radius rule for eligibility
